I have been asked to write a bit about our involvement in this year’s Pan-Mass Challenge fundraising event. For those not aware, it is the one of the country’s single largest cancer fundraising events; started in 1980, the event has raised over $540,000 million dollars since inception, $47,000,000 last year with a goal for $48,000,000 this year. Virtually every single dollar raised goes directly to cancer research.

I am not aware of anyone whose life has not been impacted by cancer. My wife, Celia, is about to celebrate her 10 year anniversary of being declared in remission from her fight with breast cancer, thanks to early detection and access to some of the world’s best doctors and medical facilities (thank you Dr. Gadd and Mass. General Hospital !). While Celia, has been very fortunate we know many others who have not and our work is not close to being done. Not being doctors ourselves, we cannot help those afflicted directly but we sure can help fund the cause to find a cure.
This year, our team of fourteen riders, Team Willet, is riding in honor of John Willet, a phenomenal husband, father, human being and athlete lost way too early to melanoma.
Wish us luck in this year’s ride (Wellesley to Provincetown, 163 miles total); thank you for your very generous donations and I pray that we are able to see the cure for cancer realized in the not-too-distant future.
Thank you,
Chris Downey
